In the studio

The photography studio is a protected, welcoming bubble, separated from the outside world. Once you cross the threshold, you enter a separate space, a suspended time where you can finally let down your guard, release the tensions that conventions often impose on us, and allow yourself to experiment, explore and enjoy moments of playfulness.

Studio photography is similar to theatre. It is a paradox, like theatrical action: we are in an agreed situation, where the components are constructed (structure, lighting, pose, appointment); yet, within this “fiction”, we seek maximum authenticity. By placing the subject in a highly personalised setting, through a style and objects with which they identify, the studio takes on the role of an inner mirror, without the glass.

The glass is my eye and my feelings, which the subject will only see later, when looking at their photographs. This approach has often produced transformative effects, which are perhaps my deepest reason for taking photographs.
